What Do The Trees Know?

having made its escape from escapism
this souls quest for the silence within
that which transcends . . .
. . . known quantities of understanding
and propels itself towards the infinite . . .
. . . . has risen to the fore
but where to find . . .
this knowledge to delve oneself
. . . in this world so enamored with transgressions . . .
another confrontation with a pivotal decision
realizing that the spoken tales of man it deplores . . .
. . . and an unwillingness to further explore
that which man has written
a new opportunity has risen
to gain insight and wisdom from other forms of conscious being
the question again, where to begin?
has there been an unyielding,
trustworthy steward of Mother Earth?
one whom has withstood
her nurturing transformations of renewal
. . . that has breathed her air, given life,
and provided shelter and nourishment for all beings
as falling leaves make their way gracefully to the earth’s floor
suddenly a pathway has been illuminated
. . . and now these words the soul can hear . . .
"go sit beneath the trees"

The Platonic Plague

The platonic plague is one the most rapidly spreading and ruinous communicable dis-eases that our society will ever witness.  Characterized by a deeply rooted sense of philophobia, it mistakenly interprets any and all expressions of fondness and admiration as sexual innuendo at the very minimum and sexual overture in its more fearful state.

Attempts to further advance any established friendships with a person afflicted by this plague is met with skepticism and more often than not, will neutralize said friendship. Studies also indicate that uttering the words “I love  you”, even in it’s sincerest form, will only bring about suspicion which is usually associated with negative experiences from ones past. Further heightening the recipients defense mechanisms.

Researchers believe that the platonic plague is an offshoot from the social movement “free love”, popularized in the ‘60’s and 1970’s.  While “free love”  did advocate the free union of consenting adults and their right to sexual pleasure. It sought mainly that these matters be separated from state regulation, such as marriage, birth control etc. However many counterculturalist mistakenly associated “free love” with promiscuity.

Therein the problem begins. For the afflicted person, expressions of love are not seen for what they truly are. They are seen as a ruse, which within it lies the sole purpose of sexual conquest. They have  difficulty differentiating  between a person loving them, say on a spiritual plane, versus a person being in love with them as in the romantic context. To the afflicted person the distinction is not possible. They firmly believe that everybody is after something from them.

There is no known cure for the platonic plague and it is doubtful that one will emerge from scientific study. Trusting in one’s own intuition. The willingness to accept the expressions of love rendered forth while also maintaining a healthy emotional balance within the parameters of the established friendship seems the only way that friendships will continue to thrive, which will then force the disease to dissipate.

Amity (and it's belittling)

normally I would remain silent concerning such matters

it’s probably because I take friendships so seriously
...that in this case, I must voice my disparagement
well, let me step back slightly
it wasn’t like we were the BEST of friends
I did however, view him in a different light
there was total respect held for him
never did I encroach upon his space
his work ethic I thought admirable
I appreciated the splendor of watching the flowers bloom
…probably equally as much as he did
there was even a shared interest in solar geometrics
...and the various components that comprise monosaccharides
his sense of loyalty and commitment could not be undermined
but to attack me in the manner in which he did…
unprovoked
was totally uncalled for and inexcusable
so another pseudo-friend has come and gone
it’s quite alright
I’ve gone through something like this countless times
the sting of his assault will last only a short while
I will not seek retaliation (although I want to)
seeking retribution would only exacerbate the situation
…but the line has been crossed
I will forgive his action, however...
unlikely it is, that I will ever trust being in his presence again

Love Letter(s)

got a letter in the mail from her today
immediately my heart began skipping beats
as I opened it and began reading
not only did I feel…
…I could hear the tender embrace from her soft voice
such as it once was
the yearning, the needing
driving me to the brink
standing here, thinking….questioning my rational
NO!  it had to be done
I had to move on
just couldn’t allow anyone
to kill my belief in LOVE

(especially since it took so long to rediscover that belief)

whenever we were together
the luminosity of the love we shared
… shown brighter than any known constellation
I don’t know what happened
somehow we lost our communication

time spent became time wasted
in believing this letter is more than just some fraught decorum

despite my opposing inclination

I sat down and wrote her a poem

Passions Fire

often I have found myself wondering
with an immense curiosity
to the point of it becoming overwhelming
how sharing an interminable love with you would be
each moment being that of arousal, tenderness, sincerity
this is what I want you to know
I would give you every facet of my own actuality
with no limitations as to how deep it can go
feeling your warmth,  knowing your kiss
infinitely remaining indulgent in mutual desire
a love neither of us could ever find our way to resist
fully immersed with one another, into passions fire

In Contempt Of Manhood

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”-Martin Luther King Jr. US Black civil rights leader & clergyman (1929 - 1968)

I ask myself how it is that a man can sleep
while famine has run rampant
as each day the fortitude of his fellow people
slowly becoming more stagnant
in the midst of the hunger and starvation
how could he have possibly thrust aside within his mind
the untold deaths and devastation
does he not recognize the despair in the children’s eyes
does he not feel the resonance from the mother’s who cry
while so many search for ways to cope
clinging to each breath taken as their only sign of hope
he lie in wake
concerned only about himself and that which he can take
he steals
…and then he rapes
how can it be that this marauder so hideous
with his gun ready to fire into calamitous yearnings
his ego demanding respect
…while empathy is nonexistent
finds himself able to sleep
I cannot fathom how he can

dare he consider himself a man
