A Consonance Of Scotch and Cigarettes

She hadn’t quite put her finger on it completely
Looking intently upon him while he sips his scotch
The certain way he stands out
Never one to back away from a challenge
Never settling for less
Living life to hilt…or so it appears
Yet the craving in his eyes reveals the elegies within his heart
A longing to once again know touch…intimacy
Having long ago, abstained from anonymous machinations
Fragments from far too many cold nights spent…
…dawdling in peculiarities and masochistic forbearance
Burdens his contemplation
Yet, as the plum from her last exhale dissipates into the ambiance
She recognizes he has become attuned…
…to the vibrations of her own tristesse
Breathing in his aura
Slowly surrendering to their mutual yearnings
Her hesitancy is now, much like ice cubes…
…melting away into the warmth of his attentiveness
Desire no longer smoldering in a cloud of suppressed emotion
While the ashes from her scarred past drop quietly into irrelevance
Anxious moments are distilling into clarity as…
…they both realize the expression of love still agrees with them
